The Peace Bridge is an iconic structure across the River Foyle, uniting historically separate communities on the two banks in the city of Derry~Londonderry.
It is an S-shaped pedestrian and cycle self-anchored suspension bridge. The main suspension bridge is approximately 250m long
and spans the River Foyle; the landspans are approximately 60m long and span a railway line and link up to the elevated ground at the east bank.
The east and west halves of the bridge are structurally independent and overlap in the middle, creating the effect of shaking hands.
The deck is supported by 4 main locked-coil cables of 115mm diameter, each with 14 hangers of 35mm diameter spiral wound cable. The heads of the main cables are held by two inclined pylons nearly 40m long, and the tails of the main cables are held in “trumpet” anchorages on the sides of the boxes.
